Food Safety Knowledge and Hygienic Practices among Vendors of Vegetable Salads in Pipeline Ward of Nairobi County, Kenya

Street sold foods are a source of inexpensive, nutritious food for many people living both in the urban and rural areas. It is also major income people, particularly women by providing self-employment opportunity to develop business skills with low capital investment. However, ready-to-eat contamination can transmit food-borne diseases through those handling salads. Therefore, quantitative cross-sectional survey exhaustively sampled 120 vendors was carried out assess safety knowledge hygienic practices among vegetable salads Nairobi County, Kenya. The study established that majority (60 %) respondents were males aged between 26-35 (53 most them had up secondary level education (73 %). (59 been trained on therefore good hygiene, practiced hygiene. results indicate even though used gloves aprons, some did not practice this could predispose contamination. indicates formal practices, may have an effect their perception exhibited poor there need enhance training law enforcement governing street vending business.
